CCHIT speeds advanced health IT certification
In a move that is bound to cause some controversy, the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology plans to speed development of its advanced technology certification programs to keep pace with federal health IT initiatives. The commission said that it will accelerate the rollout of its Advanced Clinical Decision Support and Advanced Security programs. Originally slated for completion in 2011, those programs will now be finished in the 2009-2010 development cycle, which begins July 1 and runs through June 30, 2010. [Read More]
CalPERS to launch electronic prescribing pilot program
Next month, CalPERS will launch a pilot program to study how electronic prescribing can improve patient safety and reduce healthcare costs. CalPERS, which provides healthcare benefits to nearly 1.3 million public employees in California, said its new pilot is the largest e-prescribing initiative in the state, and possibly nationwide. Questions surround health IT money
I love best-case/worst-case scenarios, and here's a good one from the Associated Press on the government's plan to spend $19 billion to promote health IT. Best-case scenario: seamless communication among doctors and patients, and far fewer mistakes. Worst-case: $19 billion goes down the drain. So simple, yet so true. [Read More]
