As the campaign to inoculate America against the H1N1 virus started to ramp up last week, so did the controversy. Reports of hospitals and health systems mandating all employees receive H1N1 vaccines brought cries of civil rights infringements. The H1N1 virus is spreading across the country, and the uproar leaves many nursing leaders scratching their heads. Considering the safety of our patients, why won't nurses just get the shot? Cedars-Sinai Under Investigation for CT Radiation Overexposure to 206 Patients
The 206 people who received "significant" overdoses of radiation eight times above expected levels were undergoing CT scans for stroke detection at Cedars -Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, federal and hospital officials confirmed on Friday. The incidents, which may have occurred over an 18-month period starting in February 2008, is under investigation by California public health officials and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Minnesota nurses rally against state healthcare cuts
Minnesota nurses are protesting Gov. Tim Pawlenty's move to eliminate subsidized healthcare for more than 30,000 low-income adults. Members of the Minnesota Nurses Association and their supporters marched to the Republican governor's Capitol office on October 12 to demand that he reverse the spending cut. The Minnesota Nurses Association is a union with 20,000 registered nurses as members. [Read More]
