CMS Urged to Withdraw Physician Supervision Policy

A group of 12 healthcare organizations, including the American Hospital Association, has urged CMS to withdraw or delay the recent policy change regarding physician supervision of hospital outpatient services, according to an April 15 article on the AHA's Web site, AHA News Now. The organizations recommended that CMS suspend enforcement of the policy until the agency can address all related concerns.

CMS Clarifies Oversight of HCAHPS in 2009, Releases Updated Scores

CMS released its fifth quarterly update of patient satisfaction data late last month, one year after the first Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems scores from hospitals that participated in the pilot test were made available to the public. This time around, scores from all hospitals that receive reimbursement through the inpatient prospective payment system have been included.
