The Detroit News, July 18, 2010

The Detroit Medical Center plans to create 5,000 construction jobs during the next five years on $500 million worth of planned upgrades to its buildings once it finalizes its sale to Nashville-based for-profit Vanguard Health Systems. The DMC told about 600 construction businesses of the new employment opportunities at a "construction outreach" event held at Ford Field. The building effort includes 15 projects on three major medical campuses -- two in Detroit; one in Commerce Township. But the work can't begin until Attorney General Mike Cox's office reviews and approves the $1.5 billion transaction.
