Cincinnati Enquirer, June 16, 2010

The Health Alliance of Greater Cincinnati and two of its former member hospitals will pay a $2.6 million fine to settle federal allegations that they improperly steered cardiology patients to University Hospital for kickbacks. The Justice Department said University Internal Medicine Associates Inc. offered to provide cardiology services at Fort Hamilton Hospital if Fort Ham would refer cardiology patients back to the medical group. The government charged that the arrangement violated its anti-kickback laws and the False Claims Act.
