Miami Herald, May 20, 2010

For more than a month, Miami-Dade County and Jackson Health System officials have been wrestling with whether the cash-poor public hospital system should be hiring consultants at an average of $260 an hour to help turn around its dismal finances. The latest proposal calls for paying PricewaterhouseCoopers $9.98 million over two years. For that money, the consultants say they can deliver $388 million in cost savings and extra revenue over 30 months. The $300 million in estimated savings is suspiciously big, one veteran hospital consultant told the Miami Herald.
