Hartford Courant, April 30, 2010

Aetna announced a 29% increase in net income for the first quarter of 2010 compared with the same quarter a year ago as the Hartford-based health insurer benefited from higher investment income while seeing a decline in premiums because of the nation's high unemployment rate, the Hartford Courant reports. Net income was $562.6 million for the first quarter, up from $437.8 million for the same quarter a year ago.
