Employees of Long Island College Hospital are scrambling after hundreds received layoff notices. A spokesman for the contested Cobble Hill medical facility put the total number of staff to receive notices at between 400 and 500. A statement issued by a spokesman for the hospital's operator, SUNY Downstate, says, "We are aligning our staffing levels to reflect the greatly reduced patient volume and limited services that are available at the facility." NY1 has reached out to the New York State Nurses Association and the union representing many of the hospital's employees for comment.
