Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton, NC, has laid off 112 people, or just under 5% of its workforce of 2,300. Hospital officials blamed the weak economy for the cuts, which are expected to save $7.5 million. The layoffs included personnel "at all levels across the organization," the hospital said, and includes "a flattened management structure to allow for streamlined decision-making and management processes, as well as clear expectations of accountability."
