The case for coordinated care: A Q&A with MGH's Clemens Hong

Physicians at Massachusetts General Hospital are making the case for bigger health care systems and fee-per-member payment models, saying both are more cost effective to manage patients with complex medical needs. In reports published in the New England Journal of Medicine and by the Commonwealth Fund, Massachusetts General Hospital physician Dr. Clemens Hong of MGH's Division of General Medicine and others have delved into "complex care management". The effort includes an analysis of how to best bring together physicians, nurses, pharmacists, mental health professionals and patient family members to manage the health of patients with complex medical needs.
