Health care programs to receive major boost from omnibus spending bill

The spending bill, which was passed by the House on Thursday and set for consideration by the Senate, includes a $3 billion increase for the National Institutes of Health, bringing its budget to $37 billion for fiscal 2018. It also features a $10 billion increase for the Department of Health and Human Services over its fiscal 2017 budget, to $78 billion.
