Highmark says CEO fired for lies, fistfight

Ousted CEO Kenneth Melani repeatedly lied to senior management at Highmark about his sexual relationship with a junior employee, and that and his March 25 fistfight with the woman's husband cost him his job, Highmark officials said on Wednesday. Highmark officials have been dogged by questions since Oakmont police broke up a confrontation between Melani, 58, of O'Hara and Mark Myler, 49, of Oakmont, the husband of Melani's 28-year-old mistress, Melissa Myler. Police said Melani and Mark Myler were cut in the scuffle at Myler's Oakmont house. Highmark responded by firing Melani, who had been the insurer's CEO since 2003 and was paid $4.35 million last year.
