Nashville's medically needy residents could get better access to healthcare if politics were taken out of the decision-making, an independent consulting firm said. The Metropolitan Nashville Hospital Authority, which runs Nashville General Hospital at Meharry, could do that by creating an independent board of health professionals charged with finding consistent funding that doesn't come primarily from city government. The committee also would coordinate citywide efforts among all safety-net providers to provide care for the poor, the consulting firm suggested.
