A group of 570 West Michigan doctors are teaming up with the University of Michigan Health System to create a new organization that will allow them to remain independent while banding together to keep costs in check.

On Wednesday, leaders from the Physicians' Organization of Western Michigan announced that by January a new statewide network will be fully operational. The new group will be called Physician Organization of Michigan, and allow doctors not employed by a large health system to tap U-M's network of resources.
