What is a nail salon entrepreneur doing at healthcare startup accelerator?

As owner of SPAtaneity Natural Nail Salon in Fort Worth, Missy Malone may not seem like a typical candidate for Health Wildcatters, a Dallas startup accelerator focused on health care innovation. But Malone's salon is not a typical mani and pedi shop. The 44-year-old entrepreneur has developed a niche in pampering cancer patients, diabetics and other at-risk clients by providing aseptic, waterless manicures and pedicures. Hubert Zajicek, Health Wildcatters' co-founder and executive director, said not all health care challenges need or require a high-tech solution. "We're interested in health care innovation that could have a big impact," Zajicek said. "SPAtaneity fits squarely into that. It's different in its approach."
