Lois Winston Winston is one of a select group of orthopedic surgery patients to convalesce in the luxury of St. Luke's new VIP suite, the first of its kind in Harlem. For an additional cost of $250 per night, recovering patients receive the five-star treatment: a plush bed, full menu, wine list, freshly-made desserts and an extra personal touch from the staff. Hospitals across the city are converting rooms into luxury suites in an effort to reel in more discerning patients. Some hospitals, like Mt. Sinai Medical Center, charge up to $1,600 per night for such amenities as marble baths, concierge service and butlers.
