Independent physicians fight an uphill battle in Vermont

As they try to compete with two of Vermont's largest hospitals, doctors have been seeking state approval for the Green Mountain Surgical Center for more than a year without success. The independent physician group is in a regulatory battle with the Vermont Association of Hospitals and Health Systems and Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans, which say the center would have "a direct negative impact" on the healthcare system.
