NEWARK, N.J. -- Federal prosecutors say a northern New Jersey doctor has admitted accepting $1.8 million in bribes to refer millions of dollars in business to a medical lab company. Frank Santangelo pleaded guilty Wednesday to a complaint charging him with violating the travel act, money laundering and failing to file tax returns. The 43-year-old Boonton faces up to 26 years in prison when he's sentenced. Prosecutors say the bribes were part of a long-running scheme operated by Parsippany-based Biodiagnostic Laboratory Services, its president and numerous associates. They say the company bribed doctors to refer patients and perform unnecessary tests, reaping millions of dollars.
