Residents as safe as senior MDs in appendix surgery

Doctors who are still receiving their surgery training can remove the appendix just as safely as fully qualified surgeons, according to a new study from The Netherlands. Although there have been some concerns that patients might suffer from having such doctors in training operate on them, the findings show that health problems and death related to surgery were unrelated to the seniority of the surgeon.
