Liver transplants at Shands at the University of Florida could resume by the end of next month, officials say, following the arrival of a new chief of transplantation surgery at the UF College of Medicine. UF and Shands officials had voluntarily shut down the liver and pancreas transplant programs in August after the departure of three of four key transplant surgeons. But Shands and UF officials filed paperwork last week with the United Network for Organ Sharing to restart liver transplants after Dr. Jeffrey Fair arrived on March 4 from the University of California at Los Angeles' David Geffen School of Medicine, where he was a professor of surgery.
