British hospitals: No sitting allowed

British authorities claim a ban on visitors sitting on a patient's bed is needed to prevent patients from getting infected by visitors and healthcare staff. But in a commentary published in the British medical journal BMJ, one doctor argues the recommendation is unjustified and denies patients the chance to be close to their loved ones. Britain's department of health said the bans on sitting and flowers are determined by individual hospitals.
