Doctor admits taking bribes to order lab tests for patients

Another doctor has admitted taking bribes from a New Jersey lab in exchange for ordering extra tests without their patients' knowledge, making him the 18th to do so in a year. Dr. Peter Deplas, 47, of Glen Head, New York admitted he took $120,000 in cash payoffs to order nearly $1 million in unnecessary tests through Biodiagnostic Laboratory Services in Parsippany. Deplas' online biography says he practices internal medicine and is affiliated with Mount Sinai and several other major hospitals across the region.
