The Zablocki Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Milwaukee hopes to have resumed about half of the medical procedures normally available at the hospital by the end of next week, more than four weeks after it stopped doing surgery and other procedures out of concern about the sterilization of medical equipment. A team from Washington, DC, has determined that no veterans were put at risk, said Gary Kunich, a VA spokesman. The concerns prompted the hospital to sterilize thousands of pieces of equipment used in medical procedures. The hospital, which stopped doing medical procedures on Dec. 6, has started doing procedures again as equipment has become available. The shutdown took place after an employee questioned whether every step was being followed when sterilizing medical equipment.
