Sustainable Innovation for the Future

Mechanical space feeding the patient care areas of Katz Women's Hospital. More than 80 individual VAV boxes are located outside of the patient space each feeding an individual area allowing for precise control. The equipment is easily maintainable ensuring it will operate appropriately for the life of the building. The project was able to use approximately 60% less piping than a traditional approach due to this unique machine room. Water carrying piping about patient rooms has been eliminated with the exception of the fire suppression sprinkler system, nearly eliminating the potential for mold growth. (Photo courtesy of Katz Women's Hospital at North Shore University Hospital.)
