Hospitals get slow start on stage 2 of Meaningful Use program

No hospitals have yet attested to meeting the requirements of Stage 2 of the meaningful use program, Elizabeth Holland, director of health information technology initiatives at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, told Bloomberg BNA March 26. Hospitals and health-care providers must report compliance with the program's requirements for a full fiscal quarter and, as of March 26, no hospital had submitted Stage 2 attestation data to the CMS, Holland said. Stage 2 began for hospitals in October and providers in January. Holland said she isn't alarmed that no hospitals have come forward because she expects a deluge of attestations from April through June.
