Applications for two new hospitals in McHenry County fail to meet state standards, according to individual reports released Tuesday by the Illinois Department of Public Health. Centegra and Mercy health systems are proposing similar 128-bed hospitals in Huntley and Crystal Lake, respectively. The Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board is scheduled to vote on each plan June 28 in Joliet. The review board considers the information reported in the state agency reports, but is not mandated to follow its findings, said Sabrina Miller, communications manager for the department. Both plans would duplicate services in an area already saturated with hospitals and empty beds, according to the report. The Mercy application did not comply with five criteria. Centegra's fell short in three state standards.
