Researchers announced they have developed a new type of implantable defibrillator that avoids the need to connect the device directly to the heart with wires, called leads, that are associated with complications of the traditional technique. The researchers said a study showed the new defibrillator successfully detected and corrected potentially life-threatening irregular heart beats after a lead from the device was placed under the skin adjacent to the heart.
