South Florida doctors to get $8.5 million for tech upgrade

South Florida is getting $8.5 million in federal stimulus money to help doctors and other healthcare providers convert to electronic record keeping. The grant will establish the South Florida Health Information Technology Regional Extension Center, which will employ about 40 workers over the next three years to assist about 1,500 primary care providers in Broward, Miami-Dade, and Monroe counties in making the switch from paper to computer-based records, the Miami Herald reports.
