UPMC wants to help small hospitals with IT

University of Pittsburgh Medical Center is teaming with computing giant Oracle (Nasdaq: ORCL) to sell a web-based identity management system to small and midsized health care providers. The move is part of UPMC's ongoing strategy of taking its health care expertise, whether it is in information technology, managerial or operations and commercializing it so that smaller organizations can benefit from UPMC's work, said spokeswoman Wendy Zellner. Additionally, new revenue generated from this or other commercialization efforts can then be invested into the system.
