Monitoring from afar, 'eICUs' fill medical gap

UMass Memorial Health Care is the first hospital network in Massachusetts to build an eICU. The system, of which there are about 40 nationally, aims to cope with the soaring number of ICU patients. The problem is exacerbated by a shortage of intensive care specialists.
