Inkjet technology could lead to patches replacing needles

Hewlett-Packard Co. announced it has signed a deal with an Irish company to develop and sell a drug delivery platform that uses tiny microneedles embedded in patches applied to the skin. If the idea works, 1-inch-square patches containing hundreds of microneedles controlled by a microprocessor could be programmed to painlessly deliver drug doses to patients.
