Half of Elderly Women Unnecessarily Catheterized in ED
A report in the American Journal of Infection Control raises questions about whether elderly women are being unnecessarily exposed to risk of infection, a known hazard of urinary catheterization.
I believe staff catherizes the elderly so they don't have to deal with helping them to the restroom. When admitted, these patients are severly neglected. Very little care is given to ensure their nutrition and rarely are they ambulated. The result? Infections, and thrombosis. I am disgusted with the care hospitals give to our elderly.
