Individual Mandate Costs Explained

Two studies show that the individual mandate would affect only a small number of Americans, that government subsidies would enable most of the affected to cover their health insurance costs, and that without the mandate, government spending would increase by billions of dollars.

According to Kaiser, the US spends (Federal State and Local) about at 2.6 Trillion dollars in health costs in 2010. So with out the Individual Mandate, the spending will increase 10 Billion dollars, which is less than a half percent.

Exactly. The decion isn'trydrag about if its a good idea. By the way, where does the government get the money to pay the subsidies and all those folks flocking to Medicaid? Funny how she glossed right over that.

Everyone's opinion of the individual mandate and whether or not it is good social policy has no bearing on what the supreme court must decide. The court must rule on whether the law is constitutional or not.

I welcome Maregaret's article. Interesting, articulate, explains the issues. What should have been a blended effort of people and points of views has transferred to "sound bites" "word association" and 'misunderstood ideas" which do not relate to the issue: 1. Americans are not healthy 2. People do not have appropriate access to health care 3. The very affluent have their health system but most of us have a relatonship between our insurance carrier and paper work. 4. Doctor/patient relationship is an imaginatiion 5. Telemedicine and making other changes to access to health care is the way people will be healthier 6. Stop having seperate benefits: vision, mental health, dental [INVALID] It should all be part of the same plan.....Comprehensive health care.
