Meet the Speakers
Robert S. Bonney, J.D., FACHE, Senior vice president for business development, Saint Luke’s Health System
Mr. Bonney has more than 29 years of healthcare operations experience at the executive level, both in large health systems and managed care organizations. He joined Saint Luke's Health System in 1999 as vice president of managed care. He was appointed Senior Vice President - Product Line Management in 2001, and he became responsible for business development in 2002. Bonney holds masters' degrees in both business administration and health services management from the University of Missouri - Columbia and a law degree, summa cum laude, from the Michigan State College of Law (formerly Detroit College of Law). A sought after speaker, he is also well published, most recently authoring Consumer-Directed Healthcare and its Implications for Providers. Mr. Bonney is board-certified in healthcare management and a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Mike Parkinson, M.D., EVP, Executive vice president, Chief health and medical officer, Lumenos, Inc.
Mr. Parkinson is responsible for the strategic direction and healthcare management of Lumenos, Inc., one of the nation’s leading providers of consumer-driven healthcare plans, now part of Wellpoint. He was formerly associate director of medical programs and resources for the U.S. Air Force where he was responsible for policy and planning for the Medical Service with more than 2 million beneficiaries, 70 facilities and a $4 billion budget. A retired colonel, he also served as deputy director of Air Force Medical Operations and chief of preventive medicine. While assigned to the U.S. Public Health Service, Parkinson provided oversight of federal programs in public health, geriatrics and preventive medicine training. He served on the National Advisory Committee of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Care Purchasing Institute and as vice chair of the American Board of Preventive Medicine. He is President-Elect of the American College of Preventive Medicine and serves on the Editorial Boards of the American Journal of Preventive Medicine and the American Journal of Medical Quality.
Peter R. Kongstvedt, M.D., F.A.C.P, Vice president, Accenture
Dr. Kongstvedt has 12 years consulting experience and almost 20 years of operational leadership and experience at the seniormost levels in progressively larger managed care organizations. In these leadership roles, he has specialized in turning around troubled organizations, defining and achieving strategic goals, conceiving and executing new products, creating and installing new reimbursement methodologies and developing innovative approaches to care management and health plan operations. He is a frequent speaker, as well as the author of numerous articles for healthcare and consumer publications. In addition to his industry experience, Dr. Kongstvedt is the primary author and editor of three books: The Managed Health Care Handbook, Fourth Edition; The Essentials of Managed Health Care, Fourth Edition; and Managed Care: What it Is and How it Works, Second Edition. Dr. Kongstvedt has also led the industry benchmarking studies, worked in medical management, and his primary focus is in strategic planning. Dr. Kongstvedt serves as Accenture's primary thought leader in this industry sector.
