Will today's dissatisfied physician become tomorrow's very satisfied competitor?
Any star physician is a big admitter and a key asset to the hospital. A strain in that physician's relationship with the hospital—especially its executive leadership—can start out as a rift and quickly grow into a fracture.
Physicians are partners, customers, and competitors all rolled into one.
The ultimate responsibility of these complex, multi-layered relationships falls onto the hospital chief executive officer, chief operating officer, and other key members at the top of the leadership team. Successful relationships allow the hospital to move forward with everything from expansion to quality improvement; failure can mean organizational chaos and potential career-limiting opportunities for leaders.
Listen to HealthLeaders Media's Webcast, Practical Strategies for Improving Hospital/Physician Relations. Moderated by HealthLeaders editor, Jim Molpus, this informative, 90-minute program covers action-oriented practices for improving good physician relations and repairing fractured ones.
