A massive strike at Rhode Island and Hasbro Children's Hospitals is just hours away. Starting Monday at 3 p.m., thousands of workers are expected to walk off the job, in protest of working conditions and wages.
Nurses at four Hackensack Meridian Health facilities have voted to take action — from informational picketing to an outright strike — if they don't reach agreement on a new contract soon, the union said Wednesday. The Health Professionals and Allied Employees union said it hoped the move would prompt executives to address their biggest concern: staffing.
As most people in the medical field already know, nurses are in demand nearly everywhere. "There’s definitely a lack of nurses and a high demand for them nationally," said Shevette Batts, St. Petersburg Free Clinic Director.
The City has agreed to cough up more than $20.8 million to settle gender discrimination complaints filed by the New York State Nurses Association. NYSNA and individuals filed complaints with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in 2008 after the the City failed to recognize that nurses — a predominantly female workforce — perform “physically taxing” work.
Figure it out. That was the Burlington City Council's message to the University of Vermont Medical Center administrators and nurses who are divided on wages and working conditions.
They say the reasons they wear red: Patients, safety, integrity, solidarity. Nurses at the "U of M Health System" showed up in force in Ann Arbor seeking what they believe is a fair contract. "We're showing the university our solidarity that we're not going to accept an unfair contract," John Armelagos said.
