A New Jersey union is pressing the state to hold its largest health insurer accountable for rising costs after some public employees’ premiums for next year jumped more than 20%. The president of the state’s Policemen’s Benevolent Association urged state Treasury officials who oversee the plan to disclose whether insurer Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey owes the state any financial penalties over the rising costs.
Initiated Amendment D would raise Medicaid eligibility to well above the federal poverty line, and offer health insurance to an estimated 42,5000 South Dakotans.

The University of Minnesota is suing UCare, claiming the nonprofit health insurer's proposal to expand its board of directors would lessen the U's historic influence at the health plan. In a Nov. 1 lawsuit, the U says adding board seats to the Minneapolis-based health plan would cause the university-appointed board members to lose the majority.
After serving the Inland region for 43 years, Inter Valley Health Plan will shut down operations at the end of the year due to declining enrollment. The nonprofit Medicare Advantage healthcare insurance provider found it “difficult to compete in the current environment against companies with benefits and marketing budgets supported by membership in the millions,” CEO Michael Nelson said in a statement.
LINCOLN — Nebraska Medicaid officials have delayed signing new contracts with private companies to manage most of the state’s $1.8 billion Medicaid services until a protest filed by a losing bidder is resolved. But the Department of Health and Human Services said last week that there should be plenty of time for the three winning bidders to prepare before the planned Jan. 1, 2024, start date for the contracts.
