Home health and hospice caregiver Amedisys agreed to a $3.3 billion sweetened cash offer from UnitedHealth Group. UnitedHealth is buying the company for $101 per share, which is a dollar higher than its previous offer and above the $97.38 per share all-stock deal with Option Care in May. Interest in the home health sector has been rising since the pandemic as more patients and caregivers prefer accessing medical services from the safety of their homes. The acquisition will expand UnitedHealth's presence in home healthcare, a business it bolstered this year through a $5.4 billion deal to buy Amedisys' rival, LHC Group.
The future of a well-known nursing home in Merrill is in limbo as Lincoln County has a possible plan to sell Pine Crest Nursing Home. On Monday, the group ‘People for Pine Crest’ gathered at the Lincoln County Office to deliver 700 signatures asking for the county to not sell Pine Crest and continue funding the facility. The county wants to save Pine Crest, but the problems at hand are both how and who is going to help.
Workers at the Kentmere Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Wilmington signed a new contract with management on June 16th. The 63 workers at the Wilmington nursing facility reached an agreement with the facility’s new management this month after protracted negotiations over workers’ health care plans and other benefits, as well as managements’ ability to make decisions unilaterally.
