P. Allen Golson has been named the new CEO at Ocala Health System. Golson, 55, comes from Macon, Ga., where he has been CEO of Coliseum Health System for the past seven years. Prior to that, he was CEO of the Palmyra Medical Center in Albany, Ga. Like Ocala Health, those two organizations are part of the Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) family. After close to five years of service, his predecessor, Rex Etheredge, decided to retire, and the transition will become official Feb. 20.
Alyson Pitman Giles, President at Catholic Medical Center, is leaving CMC after 13 years of working at the hospital, where she began as an occupational therapist. Giles will continue working at CMC as a transition consultant through June 30. Catholic Medical Center's Board of Directors agreed to Giles' departure at a board meeting this month. CMC's chief medical officer and former primary care physician, Jose Pepe, will become the organization's interim CEO, the board said.
UT Southwestern Medical Center has announced that Dr. John Warner has been named chief executive officer for UT Southwestern Hospitals, effective Feb. 1. As one of the leaders of the planning process for the new 460-bed hospital scheduled to open in 2015, Dr. Warner understands UT Southwestern?s clinical programs and the systems needed to support them. Formerly assistant vice president for hospital planning, Dr. Warner is an interventional cardiologist who serves as medical director of the Doris and Harry W. Bass Jr. Clinical Center for Heart, Lung, and Vascular Disease. He joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2003 and is currently an associate professor.
Doug Puckett at Indiana University Health has been promoted to president and chief executive officer of IU Health Morgan Hospital in Martinsville, Indiana. Puckett will replace Larry Bailey, CEO of IU Health Paoli Hospital, who served as interim CEO for IU Health Morgan. Puckett was promoted from COO and CFO for IU Health West Hospital in Avon, Indiana, where he has worked since 2004. The 106-bed IU Health Morgan Hospital joined IU Health's southern Indiana region of hospitals in 2011.
After a leadership tenure of fifteen years, Gary A. Carnes will be retiring as President and CEO of All Children's Hospital, with an anticipated effective date of February 29, 2012. Carnes announced his retirement on Jan. 19. Jonathan Ellen, the Vice Dean at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, will serve as interim president. Carnes led All Children's through their merger with the Johns Hopkins Health System.
Bill Patten will move on to the CEO position at Powell Valley Healthcare. Since 2005, Patten has served as chief executive officer of St. John's Lutheran Hospital, a 25-bed medical facility in Libby, Montana. Patten will join Powell Valley on Feb. 27. Patten has 25 years of healthcare experience, including the past 15 years as chief executive officer at small, rural hospitals in the Western United States. Prior to that, he was CEO of Sitka Community Hospital, a 27-bed critical access hospital located in Sitka, Alaska. He also served as chief executive officer of Sedgwick County Health Center in Julesburg, Colorado.
