Aetna announced the appointment of Charles Kennedy, MD, to the position of head of Aetna Aligned Care Solutions. Kennedy will lead this business segment focused on collaborating with health systems to make the transformational changes needed in healthcare -- changes that lead to higher quality, greater coordination, and an overall better patient health care experience.
Shore Health System has named Kenneth D. Kozel president and CEO of the Easton-based company. Kozel has worked in healthcare for 23 years, most recently serving as president of the two Upper Chesapeake Health hospitals in Harford County. Kozel will begin his new job Oct. 3. Shore Health System includes two hospitals, Memorial Hospital in Easton and Dorchester General Hospital in Cambridge, as well as other facilities in Talbot, Dorchester, Caroline and Queen Anne's counties.
Pleasant Valley Hospital recently named Tom Schauer as the new Chief Executive Officer of the not-for-profit healthcare facility. Schauer's new role was made effective on June 20.
Since February 2011, Schauer has served as Interim CEO.
Norman G. Roth has been named the COO of Bridgeport Hospital and Senior Vice President of Yale New Haven Health System, effective Sept. 1. He succeeds Hope Juckel-Regan, who retired at the end of June. Roth has been with Yale-New Haven Hospital since 1979, most recently as Senior Vice President for Administration.
Jefferson Regional Medical Center at Crystal City named Dan Eckenfels as its CFO. Most recently, Eckenfels had been responsible for the annual audit of the financial statements for Jefferson Regional. Now he fills the CFO vacancy created when Jim Muehlhauser was promoted to the medical center's chief executive and president in October.
Methodist Health System has named John Phillips president of Methodist Mansfield Medical Center. Phillips, who currently serves as regional COO of Christus, St. Michael Health System in Texarkana, will join the Methodist team on Aug. 22. Phillips is a seasoned health care executive who began his career at Hendrick Health System in Abilene nearly 15 years ago. Since 2008, Phillips has worked for ChristusHealth, at St. Michael Health System where he oversaw operations of a 312-bed non-profit tertiary, acute care hospital, a 50-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital, a 30-bed LTACH, home care, and an employed physician group.
