Attorney: Green Township doctor in opioid case 'broke the law with good intentions'

For nearly 40 years, Dr. George Griffin ran a solo medical practice in Green Township. Many of his patients were working class people who had been injured on the job and needed to return to work, according to his attorneys. But prosecutors say Griffin, an orthopedic surgeon, prescribed massive and dangerous amounts of pain medications without a legitimate medical purpose and didn't follow accepted guidelines for using opiates to control pain.
