Eight people, including one employee of Montefiore Medical Center, have been indicted on charges they used patients' personal information to make thousands of dollars worth of purchases. Specifically, the New York Times reported that the employee, Monique Walker, is accused of regularly printing patient records and selling them to the seven other co-defendants. The illicit purchases totaled as much as $50,000, the report added, and compromised as many as 12,000 patients' personal information. For its part, Montefiore said it was contacting every patient affected by the breach and would offer identity protection measures.
