LORAIN, Ohio (WOIO) - Mercy Health and The MetroHealth System have decided to end the trauma program at Mercy Health – Lorain Hospital effective October 15. Mercy Health – Lorain Hospital will not seek re-verification from the American College of Surgeons as a Level III Trauma Center. The hospital said after extensive review, this transition made the best sense for both Mercy Health and MetroHealth to ensure the health systems continue to provide high-quality, compassionate care long into the future. This decision will further Mercy Health and MetroHealth’s ability to care for the right patient, at the right place and at the right time. The hospital will continue providing emergency care to the people of Lorain County. Those experiencing severe or life-threatening symptoms can come to the Mercy Health – Lorain Hospital emergency department, just as they always have, or call 911 for help.
