The promise of AI in healthcare is great, but will it be fulfilled?

AI has arrived at the bedside for nurses.

Adopting AI technology can be difficult with so many unknowns. Nurses have concerns about job security, patient privacy, and the impact that it will have on their daily workflows. Many CNOs see AI as a tool, not a replacement, but still have questions about the ROI.

This year at HealthLeaders, we explored different digital strategies, spoke with executive leaders, and did a deep dive into the implementation of AI to provide CNOs with the best strategies to improve their approaches to innovation.

Here is the 2025 round up of stories about AI in nursing.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

CNOs should provide education and include nurses in the development and implementation stages to help quell fears among nurses that AI might replace their jobs.

Nurse leaders must focus on change management and communicating the reason behind why the technology is being added to the workflow.

For CNOs, it's important to support the nurses and to hear and evaluate their feedback, and pass it along to the developers so the technology can be tweaked as necessary.
