Consumers cut health spending

Consumers have already cut back on healthcare in the face of the ongoing credit crunch that threatens to throw the U.S. economy into a slump. Healthcare was long thought to be a recession-proof financial sector, but economists are seeing a spending slowdown on everything from medical appointments to prescription drugs. Despite an aging and growing population, physician office visits also have been declining since the end of 2006, according to market researchers.
