More than 47% of Texas hospitals are reporting negative operating margins in 2022, up from about 34% in 2019, according to the report prepared by consulting firm KaufmanHall. Total expenses for hospitals in the state are more than $33 billion higher than pre-pandemic levels, outpacing revenue.
