UF Health has agreed to pay $3.25 million to settle a federal whistleblower lawsuit alleging that its hospitals knowingly overbilled government programs from 2003 through 2008. Signed in early June, the legal agreement to pay that money to the federal government's Medicare program and the state of Florida Medicaid program is the second and final piece in the settlement of a 2008 lawsuit brought by Terry Myers. He is the president of a consulting firm, YPRO Corp., that Shands hired in 2006 and 2007 to conduct an audit to determine if the hospital firm's billing procedures were following Medicaid and Medicare rules.
