Wisconsin's health care squeeze

An employee of Waukesha-based Weldall Mfg. Inc. recently needed surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome and traveled to Rockford, Illinois for the procedure. The hour-and-a-half drive took the employee outside of Wisconsin, where the average cost of the surgery and accompanying pre- and post-procedure visits is $7,714, to Illinois, where that same procedure costs an average of $4,547.
