Two months after announcing the public-private initiative, Deputy HHS Secretary Eric Hargan announced the core participants for the Deputy Secretary's Innovation and Investment Summit (DSIIS).

The Department of Health and Human Services announced the core participants for the Deputy Secretary's Innovation and Investment Summit (DSIIS), which received more than 250 nominations over the course of two weeks, and will meet for the first time next month.

HHS Deputy Secretary Eric Hargan announced Wednesday morning the finalists for the yearlong collaborative effort between HHS and healthcare innovators in the private sector. The list includes 15 leaders from various spheres of the healthcare industry, including academic medical centers, payer organizations, and medical device companies among others.

"Collaboration between HHS and private sector investors and innovators is critical to advancing new solutions and evolving healthcare in America," Hargan said in a statement. "We believe this will produce new approaches that will improve the health and well-being of the American people. As the healthcare community innovates, HHS must also be innovative in how we engage with that community."

The first DSIIS meeting will be held on December 18, just over two months after Hargan first announced the prospective initiative, which garnered a significant response. In Wednesday's press release, Hargan stated that HHS received more than 250 nominations, something he had alluded to in an interview with HealthLeaders last month.

DSIIS will meet quarterly to discuss healthcare innovation opportunities and how industry players can foster further innovation on both the public and private side. HHS will be encouraging DSIIS participants to "compare perspectives, analyze the most promising opportunities, and identify barriers" related to the future of healthcare innovation.
