HealthLeaders’ recent Chief Digital Executive Exchange (CDEX) brought to light to shifting strategies in assessing AI. But one thing is clear: You need a solid plan of action.

Digital health leaders need to have an AI strategy that balances thoughtful investment, cost monitoring, and an understanding of what your own software development staff can do.

That was one of the early takeaways from HealthLeaders’ Chief Digital Executive Exchange (CDEX) last week in Washington DC. The invitation-only gathering of roughly 25 C-Suite execs from across the country focused on how technology can and should be integrated into long-term planning.

At the top of the agenda, of course, is AI. And as Eric Kirkendall, MD, MBI, VP and CMIO at Advocate Health, pointed out, healthcare leaders need to have a plan. They can’t just buy up every new tool and platform, plug them all in, and wait for the fireworks.

This will be an ongoing issue for tech and innovation executives going forth, as AI becomes more sophisticated and healthcare organizations become more specific on what they want these tools to do for them.

Read the story here, and take a look at the infographic below that details Advocate Health’s 5-point plan for AI.
